With the exception of divorce by consent, divorce is a complicated matter in Italy and is best avoided if it can be accomplished abroad, which is possible when one of a couple isn’t Italian or you were married abroad. For two non-Italians or when only one partner is Italian, foreign law may take precedence over Italian law. A couple divorcing by consent must wait three years to be divorced but couples not divorcing by consent must wait five years after fault has been proved.

I loved reading this article. I fell in love with Italy a few years ago and I’m considering having my wedding here. It’s been a tough decision to make between California and Tuscany. I love the pictures of the venues you posted. Do you have any recommendations for wedding planners or day of coordinators? I’d love to speak with you sometime if you have the time to spare.

I take care of all necessary documents for religious and civil ceremony and I can book the most beautiful churches and the different rooms of the Town Hall… but if you prefer a more quickly solution, we can organize a symbolic ceremony wherever you wants.
Far from the days of sending an attachment via email or by letter, it is easier than ever to use technology for your wedding planning. If many of your guests are coming from abroad (or even if most of them are Italian), a wedding website is highly recommended and typically easy to obtain and use. This will be the ‘online real-estate’ that details your wedding day, including location information and gift registry. It also is a nice place to include a little bit of info on you two as a couple and collect RSVPs. Leave a section of travel ideas for out-of-towners including hotel and restaurant recommendations.
The monolithic church of Aubeterre-sur-Dronne, in the Charente region of south-west France, has to be one of the most beautiful and unusual churches in the world. Dating from the 12th century, it is carved into a chalk cliff and is the biggest underground church in France Stay nearby in the centre of the village, which is full of rustic charm with steeply sloping cobbled streets – a perfect backdrop for post-wedding photographs.

Choosing a wedding planner in Italy isn’t unlike choosing a new friend. It’s extremely personal. If you want a religious ceremony in Sicily it will be a very difficult job to chose from all the beautiful churches, but perhaps one of the most glorious is the Duomo di Monreale, a 12th century monument of Norman Sicily just outside of Palermo. Second in the world only to the Hagia Sofia in Istanbul, the exquisite and well-preserved golden mosaic-interiors of the Duomo cover an expanse of nearly 70,000 square feet. The intricately carved Romanesque capitals and columns in the adjoining Cloister are also breathtaking.
After more than one year of planning this day was even much better than expected! Perfect organized, but always with a personal touch. Angela was everywhere. Babysitter, Decoration coordinater, holding the hand of the bride father! Memorable what she did for you and this special day! The kids and us will never forget you! You are in our heart! Thank you Angela!
The sworn affidavit must state that there is no impediment to your marriage. This needs to be completed and obtained before the wedding either by making an appointment with your Canadian Embassy at home or waiting until you’re in Italy itself. If you decide to wait until you get to Italy, you will need to make an appointment at the Canadian Consulate in Milan or the Canadian Embassy in Rome – it’s a little bit more difficult without a planner so best thing is to sort it all out before you go.
The location was beautiful and we were able to find it thanks to our wedding planner Laura. I would recommend that if you are planning a wedding larger than 10 people you should definitely get a planner we had about 40 people attend. We did contact a few wedding planners and we picked Laura. She is reasonably priced and did a great job. There is no way we could have pulled it off without her and I would not recommend that you try to organize a wedding in Italy without someone there to assist you. Things work a little differently and it was nice to have Laura there to guide us along the way. if you are interested in contacting her I am attaching her email below.
After the declaration is made, it’s usually necessary for banns ( pubblicazioni matrimoniali) or the announcement of the forthcoming marriage, to be posted at the local town hall ( comune sometimes referred to as municipio) and church (for a church wedding) for two consecutive Sundays before the marriage occurs if either party is Italian or resident in Italy.
